June 7, 1990 – Detroit Pistons bruiser Bill Laimbeer tied a then-NBA Finals record by connecting on six 3-pointers during Game 2 of the 1990 NBA Finals. Five of Laimbeer’s triples came in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading to a narrow 106-105 defeat at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Laimbeer tied a mark set by Michael Cooper, who initially set the record in Game 2 of the 1987 Finals when he hit six of seven from deep. Kenny Smith and Scottie Pippen would both best Laimbeer’s record in the 90’s by connecting on seven 3-pointers before Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen set the current record by hitting eight 3-pointers in Game 2 of the 2010 NBA Finals.
